AgriQuality Limited, Lower Hutt, Spill Response Simulated Scenario - 2005

Scenario:
Employee carrying glass Winchesters tripped, resulting in a nitric acid spill.  Although sustaining chemical burns, the employee managed to raise the alarm.

Outcome:
First Aid Team and Spill Response Team launched into action.

Spill Response Coordinator established control and requested technical advice from 0800 CHEMCALL.

Ambulance and fire department were called and injured woman was removed from building on a stretcher.

NZ Fire Service arrived and took control.  A total of seven appliances including the Fire Department Command Centre and teh Decontamination Unit attended.

 

Fire department decontamination officers entered the building and assessed the situation.  Communicating with the command centre via white board they re-established control.

Clean up activities were initiated and the nitric acid removed.

Decontamination of the fire department officers was undertaken and once the scene had been cleared by the command post, all were allowed to re-enter the building.

Overall:
A Highly successful emergency response completed by the staff from AgriQuality Limited, Lower Hutt, the Wellington Free Ambulance and the New Zealand Fire Service.
