After successful completion of this course and post course assessments you can also obtain Unit Standard 20645 & Unit Standard 20733. QEC has been granted approval by NZQA under Section 251 of the Education Act 1989 to provide Approved Handler - Hazardous Substance, training scheme.

NZQA Unit standard 20645 - Describe the requirements of the HSNO Act 1996 relevant to approved handlers
NZQA Unit standard 20733 - Demonstrate knowledge of safe storage and handling of hazardous substances in the workplace

Overview:
A two day interactive course designed to provide you with knowledge of HSNO Substances and New Organisms Act and allow you to become a certified approved handler.

  • Those seeking to be an approved handler
  • Those seeking to renew their expired approved handler certificate with a detailed refresher course
  • Those interested in learning more about HSNO
  • Those with some experience handling hazardous substances

Learner Outcomes:
Successful completion of this course and post course assessment will demonstrate knowledge of Hazardous Substances Personnel Qualifications Regulations 2001 for classes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9 as required for NZQA unit standards 20645 (Describe the requirements of the HSNO Act relevant to approved handlers) level 3, 3 credits; and 20733 (Demonstrate knowledge of safe storage and handling of substances in the workplace) level 3, 4 credits.

Attendees may apply to become a registered approved handler upon successful completion of the course and in course assessment and associated application paperwork (fee is included in course cost)

Prerequisites:
Previous experience with hazardous substances is required. If you require accreditation to Unit Standard 20645 and Unit Standard 20733 you must provide us with your NZQA number.

Notes:
If you are renewing your certificate this course exceeds the renewals requirements under HSNO legislation. We do not certify pesticides or veterinary medicines or explosives.

Course Cost:
In Class: $720.00 plus GST per person.
Unit standard administration $100.00 plus GST for two
