Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996 (HSNO)

With changes to the HSNO Act currently effective for class 1 explosives, class 2 - 5 dangerous goods and class 6 - 9 toxic substances, now is the time to ensure your company has implemented compliance programmes.

HSNO regulations will require changes on site in many cases, such as:

  • Approved Handlers - Training in chemical safety and awareness. CLICK HERE for the next approved handler workshop.

  • Location Test Certificates (replacement for the Dangerous Goods License) CLICK the link below to send an enquiry form regarding Location Test Certificates.

  • Package labelling, and site signage

  • SDS content (supplier responsibility)

  • Tracking - for highly hazardous substances

  • Emergency response plans

  • Bunding and secondary containment

QEC can help with all aspects of HSNO compliance implementation, from conducting approved handler training and certification; conducting pre-location test certificate compliance and certification; to recommending labelling or storage improvements.

ERMA Approved Test Certifier

  • Approved Handlers: in control of the manufacture, storage, use or disposal of class 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9 substances.
  • Locations: where class 2, 3, 4, and 5 substances are manufactured, stored, used or disposed of.
  • Stationary container systems.
